The short version

  • The books teach you to exercise your own legal rights. They are educational materials, not legal advice, and we are not your attorney.
  • The subscription prepares and sends paperwork on your behalf. It does not represent you, and it cannot guarantee how a company will respond.
  • You can cancel the subscription at any time, exactly as easily as you signed up.
  • Nothing here is investment or financial advice, and none of this is connected to the author's separate work as a financial advisor.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of TakingItBackBooks.com (the "Site"), the Taking It Back book series, and the optional document-preparation subscription service. Please read them before using the Site or subscribing. By using the Site, you agree to these Terms.

1. Who you're dealing with

The Site and the book series are published by JWB Publishing LLC, an Indiana limited liability company. The optional subscription document-preparation service is provided by JWB Data Rights LLC, a separate Indiana limited liability company. Each company is responsible only for its own products and services.

Both companies are owned by the same individual, who is separately employed as a registered representative of a broker-dealer. That work is entirely separate from these businesses. Nothing on this Site, in the books, or in the subscription service is offered in that capacity, and no part of these businesses provides investment, securities, or financial advice.

2. What the books are — and are not

Each book in the Taking It Back series explains a specific state's consumer data-privacy law in plain English and provides templates, statutory citations, and company contact information so you can exercise your own rights under that law.

The books are educational materials, not legal advice. We are not attorneys, we are not your attorney, and reading a book in this series does not create an attorney-client relationship. Laws change, companies change their processes, and every individual situation is different. For advice specific to your circumstances, consult a licensed attorney in your state.

We make a genuine effort to keep every citation, address, and deadline accurate as of each book's publication date, and we monitor company policies on an ongoing basis. Even so, information can become outdated between printings. Where a book tells you to verify something against a company's current policy before sending, please do.

3. Your use of the books and templates

When you purchase a book, you may use every template, letter, and form inside it for your own personal purposes, freely and permanently. That's the point of the series. You may:

What you may not do is redistribute the books themselves — reselling, republishing, or distributing copies of the book or substantial portions of its text is not permitted. The rights we're handing you are to use the material, not to republish it.

4. The subscription service

What it does

JWB Data Rights LLC prepares and transmits statutory consumer data-privacy rights-request forms on a subscriber's behalf, tracks statutory response deadlines, and re-files requests annually. All templates are personally curated and reviewed by the founder; software, including AI-assisted tools, is used to prepare and populate documents, never to make decisions or provide advice.

What it does not do

On outcomes: we control the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of the paperwork we prepare and send. We do not control what a company does with it. A properly filed request that a company ignores is not a failure of the service — it's the situation the books' escalation chapters are written to address, and the service will help you pursue it.

Your responsibilities as a subscriber

5. Payment, renewal, and cancellation

Subscription pricing is shown on the Site at the time of signup. Subscriptions renew annually unless canceled. We'll tell you the price before you're charged, and before any renewal.

Cancellation is as easy as signup. This is a firm commitment, not a formality — you can cancel at any time through the same kind of simple process you used to subscribe, without phone calls, retention scripts, or hidden steps. If you cancel, your service continues through the end of the period you've paid for.

Refunds are handled case by case and in good faith. If the service failed to do what it promised, tell us and we'll make it right.

6. Accounts and acceptable use

If you create an account, keep your login credentials secure and let us know promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission. You agree not to use the Site or service to submit requests on behalf of someone else without their authorization, to submit knowingly false information, or to interfere with the operation of the Site.

7. Intellectual property

The Taking It Back series, this Site, and their contents — text, cover designs, and the series name — are the property of JWB Publishing LLC and are protected by copyright and trademark law. Your purchase grants you the personal-use rights described in Section 3, not ownership of the underlying work.

8. Disclaimers

The Site, the books, and the subscription service are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that exercising a right described in a book will produce any particular result, that a company will comply with a request, or that statutory information will remain current after publication.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by Indiana law, neither JWB Publishing LLC nor JWB Data Rights LLC will be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Site, the books, or the subscription service. For the subscription service, our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Some states do not allow certain limitations of liability, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. If we make a material change, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, note it on the Site. Continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Indiana, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
